Missions Jerline Smedley is head of the Missions committee at First Baptist Church, Sacramento and is a Mission Advocate within our congregation. Our local congregation is a 'unit of mission' among our affiliation of churches, and is meant to affirm, support and challenge our congregation to live out the Great Commission. We believe we have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to live as witnesses and agents of God`s love and justice in our church and the world. We are to be:
A. Vital in worship. B. Dynamic in proclaiming the word. C. Effective in teaching the word. D. Loving in fellowship. E. Faithful in stewardship. F. Compassionate in service. Because of God`s call, as His people, we are to be evangelical, multi-racial, mission-minded, and committed to social justice.
In the Bibical call to missions, Jesus said, "Come!"
"Come" is our invitation to salvation. Then Jesus said, "Go!" "Go" into all the world and proclaim the Good News." Mark 16:15. In missions, we accept the challenge; that is, to go in God`s name - as servants of Christ - to bring healing, wholeness, and joy to our lost world. The FBCS yearly schedule of mission offerings is:
February - the American for Christ Offering May - One Great Hour of Sharing September - World Missions November - Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering First Baptist Church, Sacramento also collects Easter and Thanksgiving offerings to be designated to local recommended causes. The Mission budget is supported by the tithes and offerings that are collected by the congregation.
